HOW OUR SALES WORK
|
Welcome to our new-look website. The site has been upgraded so you may now bid online for items that are of interest to you. There are 5 categories of sale which are indicated on the home page next to the sale title. You will need to register with us if you wish to bid online or submit commission bids.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
To place a bid you will need to register with us first. You need only do this once as we will keep your details on our secure database. Click the Register button on the home page, complete all the details and click OK. We will send you an e-mail to confirm your registration and you may then make bids as required. Please keep your registration password secure.
WHAT TYPES OF SALE ARE THERE?
All current sales are shown on our home page. The type of sale is shown next to the sale category - Medical / Catering etc. If the icon next to the sale description shows 'View Lots', you are able to go into the sale and look at what is available but you can't bid at this stage. If the icon shows 'Bid Now' or 'Buy Now' you are able to make bids / buy items if you are registered. If the icon shows 'Bidding Closed' the sale is over and you can only view the lots.
HOW DO THE SALES DIFFER?
Auction Sale
These are sales which you can attend or submit bids (known as commission bids) for lots. By clicking on the 'View Lots' you will see a list of all the lots currently in the sale. You can search for any particular item within the sale or within all our current sales by using the search boxes. Click on the description or the photo to get further details of the item if available. This auction 'catalogue' is printable.
Tender Sale
These are sales where you submit bids via the website (after registering with us). They have a deadline shown and all bids must be submitted prior to this closing date. This is a sealed bid system - you will not be able to see bids from other potential purchasers so you need to submit your highest bid. The successful bidder will be invoiced by e-mail after the tender closes. Invoices must be paid immediately with cleared funds and prior to collecting the items purchased.
Timed Online Auction
This is where you can bid for lots via the website (after registering with us) up to a certain deadline date and time. Unlike Tenders this type of sale is like being at the auction and you can see other bids made against you. You will then be able to make a counter bid. From the Sales Calendar click on the sale that interests you and you will see a list of lots for that sale. If you click on the Lot name or Image you will get the full details, but this is not essential to make a bid. The screen will show you the current bid and the next bid you can make (bid amounts are set increments). Once you have confirmed your bid this will be displayed and if you have the top bid on this item there will be a tick next to the lot to show the bid is with you. A star shows that the reserve has been met. You are also able to leave a commission bid on the item from this screen. When you submit a commission bid (the maximum you wish to pay), the current bid will only be increased by one increment and will not increase further until someone else bids, unless there is a reserve on the item in which case the bid will automatically increase to the reserve price. If a commission bid is matched by an online bid, the commission bid takes precedence.
Please refresh the screen regularly to be sure you are viewing the current bid.
The online auction deadline time will extend by 2 minutes for lots where the current bid is up to £500 (5 minutes for lots between £500 - £5000, and 10 minutes above £5000) every time there are two or more rival bidders trying to place last minute bids. The successful bidder will be invoiced by email. Invoices must be paid immediately with cleared funds and prior to collecting the items purchased.
Retail Sales
These are items that are available at any time to purchase and will have a fixed price shown. You may purchase these items via the website after registering with us. We will e-mail an invoice which needs to be paid before the items can be collected or despatched.
Live Online Auction
This type of sale is under development. In future you will be able to participate in a live auction and bid against buyers in the saleroom from your computer.
HOW MUCH DO I PAY?
As with a normal auction you will be charged VAT on the hammer (bidding) price if VAT is applicable (indicated by the VAT icon next to the Lot Name) and 15% buyer's premium plus VAT on this premium.
HOW DO I PAY FOR MY PURCHASE?
We accept the following forms of payment:
- Cheque - we will need 5 days to clear the cheque prior to collection
- Banker's Draft - items can be taken immediately
- Bank Transfer - this usually takes 3 days to clear our bank
- Debit card - there is a £1 surcharge for using a debit card
- Credit card - there is a 1.75% surcharge for using a credit card
HOW DO I RECEIVE MY PURCHASES?
It will be necessary for you to come to the sale premises to collect your items or to send a transport company who are prepared to pack your purchases. Postage of small items or professional packing can be arranged at an additional charge. Names of haulage and shipping companies can be provided on request.
All items must be paid for in full prior to collection.
