CHARITY PROJECTS

THE AMALTHEA TRUST
'Amalthea - in Greek Mythology Rhea sent a magical goat called Amalthea and some of her nymphs to look after the infant Zeus in a cave on Mount Ida. Amalthea's milk which tasted of ambrosia, made him strong and tall. When the goat died, he gave her horns to the nymphs, to thank them for looking after him so well. They were magic horns of plenty, and whatever food or drink they wished for would pour out of them as soon as they were asked. Zeus made Amalthea's skin into magic armour, which nothing could pierce.'
The Amalthea Trust will, like its mythological namesake assist individuals to grow in strength and go on to inspire and help others.
The Amalthea Trusts objectives are:
- To provide grants to existing charities in particular to support sustainable projects managed and operated by the indigenous population
- To establish and assist medical engineering schools in developing countries
The Trust is supported by donations and fundraising by Hilditch Auctions. But we are very keen to involve our clients and anyone else who may be interested. We will require advice and help from Medical Engineers, donations of equipment, money or expertise (or all 3!)
If you are an NHS Trust or Health Care Provider that currently uses Hilditch Medical Ltd to sell equipment and would like to donate a percentage of your proceeds to the Trust you may do this simply by letting us know what percentage you wish to donate. Even just 1% across all our NHS customers would be enough to fund a Medical Engineering Department in Uganda.
100% of all donations to the Amalthea Trust will be used directly for the charity, all administration costs will be funded by the Hilditch Group of Companies.
CURRENT PROJECTS
The Kenyan Acorn Project - we are supporters of this charity that are running a hospital in Western Kenya. The charity also supports several schools and is involved in community health and a training and resource centre.
KAP was established in 1998 by a group of UK visitors to the Ndhiwa area of Western Kenya in a bid to support local communities who were living in poverty.
KAP's main activities are based around Health & Education. KAP focuses on secondary health care, running a hospital, as well as primary health care, prevention, immunization and HIV education. KAP also supports building programs and provides schools with books and other educational facilities.
Paragon Hospital, Uganda - we are currently talking to the board of this new hospital in Kampala with a view to opening a dedicated Medical Engineering School which will be involved in the training of local students who can subsequently take their skills to other hospitals throughout the region.
This will be the first project of the Trust and hopefully, once a successful program has been established, we will be able to copy it in other countries where there is a need. The provision of professional medical engineers in developing countries is essential as much needed medical equipment has to regularly be cleaned and maintained. Without the ability to repair it much of the equipment donated by charities or provided with EU Funding will become obsolete in a very short time.
